All About Skincare

Our skin is constantly damaged by free radicals. When the collagen and the elastin in the skin degrades, our skin will find it hard to renew these damaged cells. Antioxidants can be used to fight off these free radicals. They are found in naturally occurring substances, and you don’t have to worry about them harming your skin.

If you apply antioxidants directly to your skin, you can reduce the free radicals and it is possible that they may actually reverse the damage to your skin that has taken place over the years. Sunlight is one of the sources of problem, so you need to protect yourself with skin care antioxidants. With antioxidant vitamins, you may actually get some form of rejuvenation.

You may ask where we should look to find such products. Vitamins A, C and E are commonly used in skin care products and in many scientific tests, they are known to improve the skin condition and to sharply reduce additional damage from happening on your skin.

Grape seed extract is one such antioxidant that has numerous beneficial properties. It helps to strengthen the capillary walls. Many skin care products contain grape seed extract and they will have positive effects on the skin.

Apart from this, another product that occurs naturally is the green tea extract. This has catechins. What it does is to reduce the size of pre-cancerous skin lesions.

Grape seed extract has specific properties that help to reduce inflammation of the skin. It has also shown to help strengthen the capillary walls and more skin care products are adding grape seed extract due to these positive effects on the skin.

Another natural product is green tea extract and this antioxidant is well worth mentioning here due to the active ingredient catechins. This ingredient of green tea has been shown in tests to reduce the size of pre-cancerous skin lesions.

Finally, Vitamin A can be found in skincare products too. The derivatives are retinol and retinyl palminate. These ingredients are typically used in anti-acne products. Unless your acne problem is internal, where you require antibiotic acne treatment, such skin care products would suffice.

So the next time you buy skin care creams, check what type of antioxidants they have in their ingredients. The manufacturers know the benefits and they try to include them in their skin care products.

1. Stay out of the Sun
Wear hats, sunglasses or clothing and use high SPF for your sun block lotions. This will definitely help your skin stay healthy. A newspaper article reports that more young women are suffering from skin cancer. This could be due to sunbathing without proper sunscreen. Overexposure to sun is really bad for our skin. Don’t think you are too young to worry about the sun.

2. Drink Enough Water
We need to remain hydrated. Fluids can come from the water and other drinks, and also from food. There is no need to drink a lot, but water is still better than other drinks such as soft drinks and coffee. Our health will improve and so will our skin.

3. Use Good Moisturiser
Keep your skin moist at all times. If you are in humid countries, your long hours in the air-conditioned office may result in dry skin. If you live in dry countries, all the more you require moisturise.

4. Sleep and Exercise
Get rid of dark circles and wrinkles by sleeping early. Some eye care products use Vitamin K to help lighten the dark circles. Without enough sleep, the body cannot rejuvenate itself. Exercise will help you to feel healthier.

5. Cleanse Your Skin
Wash your face every morning and night. Make sure you remove all the makeup before you sleep. At the same time, if you have oily skin, do not wash your skin repeatedly as this will cause greater production of oil. We need to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin so that the pores will remain unblocked. You can use exfoliating gels once a week to remove the dead skin cells. After cleansing, you may want to use a toner on a cotton wool to check whether your makeup has been thoroughly removed.

6. Reduce Alcohol and Cigarettes
These two vices make us age quickly. Alcohol is extremely drying, and as for cigarettes, you know the story. You can make your choice.

7. Choose right products
Find out what type of skin you have. Sometimes, the most expensive products may not be the best. Get samples from counters and try them out. Read magazines to find out which products are useful. Some companies may have great products in certain areas, and the others may not be that great. At the same time, you do not want to use so many products that they cancel out the benefits.
